The Slovenian Intellectual Property Office Hosted an Expert Event on Intellectual Property and Licensing

On 5 June 2026, the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office, in cooperation with the Licensing Executives Society Austria (LES Austria) and with the support of the European Patent Office (EPO), organized an expert event for representatives of PATLIB centres and Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs).

The event took place at the premises of the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office in Ljubljana and brought together experts in the fields of intellectual property, technology transfer, and the commercialization of research results. The aim of the event was to provide participants with a deeper understanding of key aspects of intellectual property management, licensing, and the effective business use of intellectual assets.

During the first part of the programme, speakers introduced the fundamentals of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyright. Special emphasis was placed on the role of intellectual property in creating business value and on licensing as one of the key mechanisms for transferring knowledge and technology into practice. Participants also gained insights into the essential elements of licensing agreements, different types of licences, risk management, and methods for determining royalty rates and other forms of compensation.

The programme continued with an interactive workshop in which participants assumed the roles of licensors and licensees and engaged in negotiations based on a practical licensing case study. Working in groups enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges involved in licensing negotiations and encouraged the exchange of experiences and best practices among professionals.

The event programme was based on the internationally recognized LES100 training course, delivered by LES Austria for professionals working in intellectual property, technology transfer, research organizations, industry, and legal advisory services. The programme is designed as an introduction to intellectual property and licensing and provides participants with practical knowledge for the effective management and commercialization of intellectual assets.
