Online Seminar: Zaščita intelektualne lastnine v mednarodnih konzorcijskih projektih: pomen in pasti konzorcijskih pogodb

International research and innovation projects, especially within European programs, rely on collaboration among multiple partners with diverse interests, regulatory frameworks, and strategic goals. In this context, intellectual property (IP) management becomes a critical factor for the later use of project results—not only legally, but also strategically and commercially.

The Knowledge and Technology Transfer (University of Maribor) is organizing an online seminar Zaščita intelektualne lastnine v mednarodnih konzorcijskih projektih: pomen in pasti konzorcijskih pogodb (Intellectual Property Protection in International Consortium Projects: Importance and Pitfalls of Consortium Agreements), which will take place on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at 10:00.

Register here. The seminar will be held in Slovene.

The lecture will systematically address key elements of IP rights management in consortium projects and highlight typical pitfalls that can endanger the commercial potential of research results.

Topics covered include:

  • Ownership and usage rights in consortium projects,
  • Rights to use intellectual property during and after the project,
  • Best practices for managing access rights,
  • Licensing of results,
  • Key elements of a licensing agreement,
  • External contractors and subcontractors,
  • Practical aspects of IPR management.

The lecture will be delivered by Dr. Aleš Lipnik, an internationally recognized expert in strategic innovation and intellectual property management in complex international research and innovation environments. With over 30 years of experience and more than 150 successfully executed national and European projects, he advises on the development of R&D, IP, and commercialization strategies with high market potential.

He is a certified knowledge transfer professional (ASTP – Certified Knowledge Transfer Professional) and active in the core of the European innovation ecosystem: as a jury member for the EIC Accelerator and as a coach in advanced and defence technology programs (DIANA Accelerator, EDF, EUDIS). He also participates in evaluating high-complexity, high-investment-risk technological projects of strategic importance to the EU.
